Explore Global Fishing Watch Data via ESRI’s ArcGIS Online

As part of our commitment to expand access to Global Fishing Watch’s open data, 13 global layers are now available on ArcGIS Online, enabling users to directly work with our datasets within ESRI’s platform services.

This update makes it easier for GIS analysts, researchers, government agencies, and NGOs to visualize, query, and analyze vessel activity and radar-based detections using familiar ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Pro workflows — without having to rely on external tools or code.

Thanks to this update, ArcGIS users can access the following datasets:

  • Raster Layers: AIS-based fishing effort — daily, monthly, annually — from 2012 to approximately 72 hours ago.
  • Raster Layers: AIS-based vessel presence, including all vessel types — daily, monthly, annually — from 2012 to approximately 96 hours ago.
  • Raster Layers: SAR-based vessel detections, including vessels matched and unmatched to AIS — daily, monthly, annually — from 2017 to approximately five days ago.
  • Vector Layers: SAR-based fixed infrastructure detections, including oil, gas, wind turbines and other structures — daily, monthly, annually — from 2017 to approximately three months ago.

These layers are sourced from the same underlying information available in our 4Wings and Datasets APIs, and they are hosted as tile and feature services to optimize performance in the ArcGIS environment
