Global Fishing Watch has released updates to the platform.
Anyone can now:
- Expand the timebar to analyze vessel activities in more detail. Click and drag at the top of the timebar to expand the pane and view detailed event, speed or depth information for each vessel’s tracks.
- View up to 20 vessels in the timebar at the same time.
- Analyze more realistic apparent fishing effort estimates near ports and anchorages, with the introduction of a default 3km port buffer. This new filter automatically removes AIS-based activity likely caused by vessels drifting or maneuvering near ports—reducing misleading signals and improving the accuracy of coastal analyses and dynamic reports. Learn more in our FAQ.
- Quickly view a vessel’s real-time information in Skylight. As partners in the Joint Analytical Cell, Global Fishing Watch and Skylight collaborate closely and provide complementary support for vessel activity review. We have now added a cross-link in Vessel Viewer to allow stakeholders to seamlessly move between tools when reviewing vessels.
Alongside these changes, we’ve made some improvements to workspace navigation, retaining unpinned vessels, error messaging and have addressed some bugs in the tool.
