2024 October – Vessel Viewer and Events API – New automated vessel group reporting and port visit data
- Release:
- Tags: API, Vessel Viewer
Global Fishing Watch and TMT are pleased to introduce new vessel group reports in Vessel Viewer, supporting fisheries and compliance managers in reviewing identity, activity and insights for a group of vessels.Â
Anyone can now:Â
- Launch an automated vessel group analysis and generate reporting based on vessel identity and historical activity information within any vessel group. Users can more easily identify vessels with greatest fishing activity or encounters, and understand vessel changes (e.g. a vessel added to an IUU list).
- Conduct bulk and advanced vessel search of multiple vessels’ by separating the identity value with semicolon (;) or comma (,).
- Easily set-up vessel groups based on their portfolio vessels of interest, and add up to 1000 vessels to a vessel group at a time.
Any existing vessel groups and workspaces created prior to 24 October 2024, will need to be updated to benefit from the vessel group analysis across all relevant vessel identities over time. You will be prompted the first time you load the vessel groups. Learn more about the required update in our FAQs.Â
Resolving errors with our port visit data and calculations
Two important updates on port visit data are included in this release:
- A fix to port visit error: We have resolved an error affecting a small percentage of highest confidence port visits in our dataset. The updated data is now more accurate.
- For Global Fishing Watch Events API users ‘highest confidence’ means level 4 confidence port visit data.
- An improved method for port visit location accuracy: We have changed how we calculate the port visit location to provide a more precise location estimate of an actual port visit by a vessel.
