In October 2024, Global Fishing Watch and TMT introduced vessel group reports in Vessel Viewer, supporting fisheries and compliance managers in reviewing identity, activity and insights for a group of vessels.
This release impacts vessel groups created before October 2024.
Before 24 October 2024, if you have created any vessel groups and workspaces saved in your profile you will be prompted to update them as part of a vessel group feature update.Â
Before the update, vessel groups and workspaces have been created based on the vessel’s most recent identity at the time of the group creation, but do not account for any new and/or previous related identities.Â
The vessel group feature update seeks to provide you with comprehensive access to all related vessel identities that our technology predicts to have high likelihood of association with the same unique vessel. By connecting the individual vessel of interest with all its likely related vessel identities, everyone will be able to track the vessel and understand historical profile changes over time such as name, flag, ownership within the vessel group. We have included these updates to avoid duplicative vessel entries in your vessel group profile, and reduce any risk of missing important information associated with your vessels of interest due to fragmented identity data.Â
While every attempt is made to accurately connect relevant vessel identities over time, this cannot be guaranteed. We recommend that you review unique vessel identities associated with the vessel profile, inspect vessel tracks, and request records from the vessel for confirmation. We are committed to improving our communication and informing you when vessels in your saved workspaces or vessel groups have updates.Â
