Christina Hicks, Ph.D.

Christina Hicks is an interdisciplinary social scientist and marine conservationist at Lancaster University. Her research focuses on fisheries governance and marine conservation, food justice and nutrition, and the politics of fisheries finance. She is particularly interested in how marine resources can support healthy, sustainable and just food systems on a global scale.
Hicks is a Pew Fellow in Marine Conservation, a Phillip Leverhulme Prize winner and a recipient of the Royal Geographical Society’s Gill Memorial Award. She also holds several high-level advisory roles, including the leadership team of the EAT-Lancet Commission, the board of directors at Oceana and the Scientific Advisory Board at the Stockholm Resilience Centre. She completed an early-career fellowship at Stanford University’s Center for Ocean Solutions before joining the faculty at Lancaster University.
Hicks earned her doctorate in Coral Reef Studies at James Cook University in Australia.
