Edaysi Bucio Bustos is the senior manager of analysis for Latin America at Global Fishing Watch. She is in charge of analyzing data from automatic identification systems and vessel monitoring systems to support countries in the region and train them in using Global Fishing Watch tools. Bucio Bustos works directly with technical teams in Panama, Peru, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Brazil to discourage illegal fishing and improve monitoring, control, and surveillance by generating analyses of domestic and international fishing fleets.

Prior to joining Global Fishing Watch, Bucio Bustos worked for four years at Mexico’s National Commission of Fisheries and Aquaculture, where she contributed to the development and publication of regulations to strengthen fisheries management. Her experience spans ​​fisheries policy, collaboration with multiple actors from the fisheries sector, academia and non-governmental organizations, and the training of stakeholders on the national regulatory framework. 

Bucio Bustos has a master’s degree in environmental science and management with a specialization in coastal marine resources management from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
