Jaeyoon Park

As a senior data scientist, Jaeyoon Park leads Global Fishing Watch’s work to identify vessels worldwide and analyze their fishing activities using various satellite technologies. Park developed and maintains a comprehensive global database of vessel identities, which serves as a foundational dataset for the organization’s various products and fisheries research. In his capacity as the research lead for Asia, Park spearheads scientific projects across the region, closely collaborating with national government agencies, academic institutes, and other key partners in the research field from Chinese Taipei, Japan, the Republic of Korea and Vietnam.
With over 15 years of experience, Park has cultivated a diverse background at the intersection of technology and conservation. His expertise spans laboratory research on wastewater treatment at France-based company, Veolia, to managing business engagements at World Wide Fund for Nature-Korea, and providing support for climate policy initiatives at the United Nations Environment Programme for Asia and the Pacific.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology and a master’s degree in engineering from Mines ParisTech in France.
