Elizabeth Selig, Ph.D.
Managing Director, Stanford Center for Ocean Solutions
Elizabeth Selig works at the intersection of environmental and social sustainability in marine ecosystems at the Stanford Center for Ocean Solutions. Her research focuses on social-ecological feedback in ocean health, marine resource conflicts, and patterns in illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing and labor abuses in fisheries.
Selig’s extensive experience includes serving as a lead author on the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) Global Assessment and a core member of the Blue Food Assessment team. She was also part of the Seafood Business for Ocean Stewardship science team, an initiative that bridges the gap between academic research and industry practice, and a member of the International Science Advisory Council for the Stockholm Resilience Centre. Prior to her role as managing director, she held the post of senior director of marine science at Conservation International and held positions at the Smithsonian Institution and the World Resources Institute.
She earned her doctorate in ecology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
