Boris Worm, Ph.D.
Killam Research Professor, Dalhousie University
Boris Worm is a world-renowned marine ecologist at Dalhousie University whose research focuses on the causes and consequences of changes in marine biodiversity and its conservation on a global scale. His lab seeks to quantify patterns and trends in marine biodiversity, understand the consequences of these changes and document practical solutions that can help restore marine life.
In recognition of his international leadership, Worm was elected a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and has received numerous honors, including the Peter Benchley Ocean Award for Excellence in Science. He has authored or co-authored more than 150 articles in leading scientific journals, reflecting the breadth and impact of his contributions to marine science.
His expertise informs global conservation policy through his role as a science advisor to Oceana. A leading voice in ocean literacy, Worm also founded Ocean School — a digital platform created with the National Film Board of Canada that uses immersive technology to engage the public on how the ocean affects daily life and how our choices affect the ocean.
Worm earned his doctorate from the University of Kiel in Germany.
