Sarah Bladen

Sarah Bladen leads the development and promotion of Global Fishing Watch’s organizational strategy, working closely with the CEO and wider leadership team to design and manage strategic planning and impact reporting processes. Bladen also oversees global communications and fundraising for the organization, working across teams to generate public visibility and engagement, secure and maintain funding partnerships and build international momentum to achieve greater transparency of fishing and other human activity at sea.
Before joining Global Fishing Watch in 2018, Sarah led global communications and marketing for the Marine Stewardship Council where she was responsible for global consumer campaigns, digital and social platform development, media relations and issue management. As a member of the executive committee, Bladen helped set the Marine Stewardship Council’s organizational strategy, leading brand development and partnerships to expand the nonprofit’s reach and impact .
Previously, Bladen held various positions with the World Wildlife Fund, where she ran anti-poaching campaigns in Southeast Asia while based in Vietnam and Thailand and drove global conservation and policy communications from the WWF secretariat in Switzerland. She also spent time as a reporter and news producer for national broadcasting companies in Australia after completing her studies.Â
Bladen holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from Charles Sturt University in Australia, where she was honored with the Sonya Reece Memorial Award for excellence in broadcast journalism.
