Dave Poortvliet

Dave leads the strategic development and maintenance of the Global Fishing Watch website. He works closely with stakeholders across the organization to set the vision for the website, ensuring it delivers on organizational objectives and engages audiences through new and innovative tools. 

Before joining Global Fishing Watch, Dave served as the associate vice president of web development and content strategy at Grand Valley State University where he led the department in strategic planning and application development and helped develop new policies to promote and protect the university’s brand. 

In his spare time, Dave enjoys birding, video games, pickleball and travel.

Dave holds a master’s degree in computer science and a bachelor’s degree in communications from Grand Valley State University.
