This April, Our Ocean Conference will once again unite governments, businesses and civil society to address the many interrelated challenges facing our ocean.
Hosted by the Republic of Korea, and running April 28-30 in Busan, this will be the 10th Our Ocean Conference and sits under the theme ‘Our Ocean, Our Action’. This reflects the need for global actors to move from planning to acting for a more sustainable ocean.Â
The conference will focus on seven key themes: Marine Protected Areas, Sustainable Fisheries, Marine Pollution, Climate Change, Maritime Security, Blue Economy and Digital Oceans. Â
Especially important for us at Global Fishing Watch is this year’s theme of ‘Digital Oceans’, which includes harnessing digital technologies to help mitigate against illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, environmental destruction and human rights abuses. As a global leader on vessel tracking technology, we will be making the case for improved transparency and use of advanced technology to improve ocean governance.Â
Global Fishing Watch will be represented by a team of experts, including our CEO Tony Long, and we will be using this opportunity to share our tools and knowledge with both new and existing partners. Please come and find us at the following places:
