Andrew Taunega

Senior Manager of Global Programs

Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea

Andrew Taunega leads Global Fishing Watch’s programmatic engagement in the Pacific region, working closely with island countries and territories through influential regional organizations like the Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency, Parties to the Nauru Agreement and the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission. Guided by the organization’s mission to advance ocean governance through transparency of human activity at sea, Taunega identifies key opportunities to influence policies and support operations, collaboratively advancing strategies with in-country stakeholders that will help deliver lasting impact.

Responsible for the development and implementation of the organization’s regional and country work plans, Taunega provides program staff with guidance and support to ensure objectives are met both efficiently and effectively. By identifying and cultivating strategic partnerships with key stakeholders—including governments, nongovernmental organizations, academia and other relevant regional bodies—Taunega seeks to further Global Fishing Watch’s organizational goals and initiatives.

Before joining the organization, Taunega spent five years as a manager with the National Fisheries Authority of Papua New Guinea, where he was responsible for the design, coordination and implementation of fisheries sector programs and projects.

Taunega holds a master’s degree in business management from the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia.
