Carlos Chacon leads Global Fishing Watch’s efforts to conserve and protect biodiversity, and improve the management of marine protected areas in the Latin American region. By leveraging the organization’s cutting-edge data and analysis tools, Carlos works closely with governments and local partners to enhance their ocean stewardship capacities.
Before coming to Global Fishing Watch, Carlos helped further the marine conservation goals at PACIFICO Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to mobilizing financial support for the sustainable management of the Eastern Tropical Pacific. He also spent several years at The Nature Conservancy developing tools, policies and incentives to increase private lands conservation throughout Latin America.
Carlos earned his juris doctorate degree from the University of Costa Rica and also holds a master’s degree in environmental studies and communications from the University of Idaho.
In his spare time, Carlos enjoys open water swimming, cycling, yoga and training for triathlons.
